March has been a month filled with new connections and collaborations. In recognition of Women's History Month, many of our activities and outreach events have been centered on supporting women who are changing the course of history and making a positive difference in their communities.
Karaoke Night
HK held our annual employee karaoke extravaganza at 7 Bamboo Karaoke Lounge on March 10th to celebrate our intrepid Office Manager, Michelle Casillas, on her birthday. This outing is Michelle's favorite HK tradition, and it's quickly becoming a fan favorite among our team as we get the opportunity to relax, rock out, and show off our vocal talents. We appreciate Michelle's dedication at the office and her mastery of vocal pedagogy on the microphone.

Happy Birthday, Michelle!
Fiona Ma’s Birthday Party
March is a month of recognizing outstanding women making history, and California State Treasurer, Fiona Ma's birthday party on March 11th was timed perfectly. HK was delighted to have the opportunity to attend, and we extend our most sincere thanks to Daphne Royse for the invitation to sponsor the extraordinary celebration.
ABA Bar Leadership Institute 2023
Andrea J. Justo, Senior Associate and President-Elect of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, visited Chicago for the Annual Bar Leadership Institute Conference. Andrea was accompanied by 282 national bar leaders and executive directors as they focused on bar governance, communication, and leadership growth.

When asked about the event, Andrea said, "The insight learned and the connections I made with other leaders throughout the country are invaluable. I hope to take this collaborative experience and develop the Santa Clara County Bar Association into one that fits the needs of our members and legal community."

We hope to see more of you at the event with us next year!
The Junior League Trivia Night
HK was excited to co-sponsor the Junior League of San Jose's annual Trivia Challenge event, which was held at Shepherd & Sims restaurant in Los Gatos on March 16th. The competition was fierce, so the stakes were high for our team, The Divorce Brigade (led by Malinda Wood, Legal Administrative Assistant). While HK ended up placing near the top third of teams, we were even more proud to be able to support the evening's cause, which embraced the vision of women around the world as Catalysts for
Lasting Community Change.

Thank you to JLSJ for an evening of well-mannered frivolity and to Event Co-Chair Anjuli Nanda Habbas for the invitation to participate! To learn more about Junior League San Jose and the causes they support, please visit their website.
Bay Angels Startup Showcase Pitch
HK and Bay Angels collaborated with Silicon Valley Capital Club to present the Bay Angels Start-up Pitch Showcase on March 22nd. It was a sold-out, fast-paced program as several Bay Area emerging start-ups pitched to potential investors. Over 100 forward-thinking professionals shook hands and shared ideas in support of corporate growth. Catherine Liang, Miss California 2022, lent her gracious interpersonal skills as the Moderator. We are incredibly grateful to Shawn Flynn, President of Bay Angels, for his entertaining introduction of HK at the event. Community Spotlight – Valley Christian Middle School’s Community Outreach Leadership Program and Demonstrate Love
We applaud Valley Christian Middle School's Community Outreach Leadership Program's 6th-grade students for hosting a Krispy Kreme fundraiser to raise support for Demonstrate Love.

Demonstrate Love operates three village-based preschools for more than 200 children and offers accessible education and student meals in the highly impoverished villages surrounding Malawi, Africa. The non-profit organization was founded in 2018 by Julia McDowell, Partner & CFLS, and her husband, Mark McDowell.

On March 1st, Julia McDowell visited Valley Christian's campus and provided an overview of Demonstrate Love’s mission and work for over 700 junior high students. Julia personally extended her gratitude to the Community Outreach Program for their support as she was presented with the proceeds of the Community Outreach Program’s fundraiser, which will cover the cost of an education for two high school students in Malawi. We especially thank Kristin Annab, a 6th-grade teacher at Valley Christian School, for overseeing this heartwarming outreach.
