SPRING SENIOR LUNCHEON

We kicked off this year's senior luncheon calendar with a special event on February 16th! We had a gorgeous lunch at Hooley's Public House in Grossmont Center. Everyone was then fabulously entertained by local singer, storyteller and musician Máirtín de Cógáin along with The Fish Market Trio. A great time had by all in attendance!

CELTIC MASS

The Annual Celtic Mass and Dinner Dance held at

St. Gregory the Great Parish on Saturday February 25th, and was a wonderful community event. A fantastic way to get ready for the month of March and to celebrate our patron saint, Saint Patrick.

All who attended were treated to a marvelous evening of Irish food, culture, history and entertainment.

MISS COLLEEN 2023

Congratulations Megan!

ULYSSES BOOK CLUB

Dr. Julie Anne Stevens, a tenured lecturer of English Literature in Dublin City University, would like to organize a Ulysses Book Club. The aim of this group is to read James Joyce’s Ulysses in the course of about two months, from St. Patrick’s Day to Bloomsday.

It will concentrate on two chapters each week (except for week one when people arrive having read chapter one), and our focus will be on the novel. The group will be moderated by Dr. Julie Anne Stevens, who will strive to keep focus on the novel and to raise questions about the chapters. However, the hope is that everyone will talk about the chapters that are to be read for that particular week.

Fridays, 7-8 pm, Venue to be Decided

Book Club Calendar Dates:

March 24 Chapter One

March 31 Chapters Two and Three

April 7 Chapters Four and Five

April 14 Chapters Six and Seven

April 21 Chapters Eight and Nine

April 28 Chapters Ten and Eleven

May 5 Chapters Twelve and Thirteen

May 12 Chapters Fourteen and Fifteen

May 19 Chapters Sixteen and Seventeen

May 26 Chapter Eighteen

There are two requirements:

A copy of Joyce’s Ulysses that is brought to each meeting

A willingness to commit to the meetings as much as possible.

Schedule [Note that the chapter divisions are based on James Joyce, Ulysses, eds Gabler, Steppe, and Melchior (New York: Vintage, 1986).]

We need to have at least six people to run these meetings. So, if you are interested in Irish

writing and want to meet others with a similar interest, then do sign up by emailing help@irishoutreachcenter.org Subject line: Ulysses

by March 15, 2023.
