For 49 years, Eric Hollenbeck, his family, and staff have made a name for themselves as the master craftspeople of the Blue Ox Millworks in Eureka. They've created a working millworks where the craftsmanship tools and techniques of the last century are utilized to produce authentic custom millwork for private homes and commercial buildings throughout the United States, including the Whitehouse. Not only is it a working shop with a number of different areas dedicated to woodworking, weaving and leatherwork, a print shop, a smithy, and pottery, the sprawling complex is also a living museum featuring extensive collections of antique tools that are used nearly everyday by the craftspeople and students of the millworks.
No words can really describe all that is on offer on their property at the northern end of Eureka's waterfront. It must be seen to grasp the degree of extensive collecting and passion for the tools of the last century at the Blue Ox. The fact that these tools are put to work daily making masterpieces for customers nationwide is amazing in itself.
