FREE POLLUTION PREVENTION TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
If you would like assistance this summer identifying air leaks in your compressed-air systems; or with ways to reduce your hazardous waste generation, air emissions, water use, wastewater discharge or energy, apply now for a free K-State PPI pollution prevention circuit rider intern. Our engineering intern can work with you on one or two projects and will provide help with pollution reduction, cost savings and return on investment data. Applications are now being accepted with intern availability beginning June 1, 2021.

NEW AIR EMISSION TOOL AND GUIDANCE FOR HEMP PROCESSING OPERATIONS

Through funding provided by the KDHE Bureau of Air, or BOA, the Kansas Small Business Environmental Assistance Program, or SBEAP, has developed a new emission calculator and an air emission guidance document for the industrial processing of hemp products and byproducts such as CBD oil extraction. The calculator tool is designed to assist this emerging Kansas industry in determining its air emissions for permitting and compliance with existing Kansas regulations.  The emission calculator and companion guidance document are available now on the SBEAP website. EPA P2 AWARDS APPLICATION PROCESS OPEN THROUGH END OF MARCH

Has your company made changes or upgrades that resulted in reduced pollution at the source such as LED lighting, solar panels, or a change in materials or process that resulted in reduced air emissions, hazardous waste generation, water or energy use, or wastewater generation?  If so, get the environmental recognition your company deserves. EPA P2 award solicitation is open through March 31, 2021.

KDHE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AWARD APPLICATION PROCESS OPEN NOW

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment, or KDHE, offers Environmental Stewardship Awards annually to businesses, industries and organizations that have made significant improvement in protecting our environment by preventing pollution. This non-competitive annual award program recognizes projects that eliminate or reduce the generation of pollutants or wastes at the source, or projects that conserve natural resources. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, June 14, 2021. Awards will be announced at the Kansas Environmental Conference

STILL NEED HAZARDOUS WASTE TRAINING THIS YEAR?

Are you in need of hazardous waste training this year? The Pollution Prevention Institute hosts a KDHE-approved online training that offers an immersive reader option and provides a "Certificate of Completion." On Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., several local agencies and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will provide the public an opportunity to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft. National Take Back Day is held twice annually and provides a safe, convenient and responsible way of disposing of unwanted, expired or unused prescription medications. GOT PROBLEMATIC OR EXPENSIVE SOLID WASTE?

Do you need ways to minimize or find a better way to manage solid waste? Through a grant from the USDA, a PPI intern can provide free solid-waste audits and solution research starting in June.
