Snowman Burning 2019

LSSU burned its 49th snowman today, celebrating the vernal equinox and seeking to banish Old Man Winter. Poetry was read, flowers and food were shared, and the paper snowman was burned. Here's hoping that the rising smoke truly does ward off snowstorms and usher in spring-like weather. We could use some!

It's Opening Day for the Soo Locks. At 12:01 a.m. Monday, the Soo Locks open for this year's shipping season. Come to Soo Locks Park and help celebrate the opening of this historic structure. Opening Day is practically a holiday for boat nerds. In past years, fans of the big boats have filled the viewing platform to watch the first freighter make its way into either Lake Superior or Huron. The park will open for spectators at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, and will close at roughly 12:30 a.m. Monday, March 25
