We had very productive meetings with our National Assistance League visitors, Linda DeLuca and Carol Miller on February 20 and 21. Both of these women brought with them vast experience in their respective chapters and with National Assistance League. They made it a point to mention that the mutual respect, closeness and support that our members show one another is very apparent. (We call that the spirit of aloha.)
We received commendations for all we are doing well, even with our limited number of members. They gave us some new ideas on how to increase our visibility in the community, add new members and streamline our operations. Most importantly, they made us take a good look at ourselves, our accomplishments and ways to become even more efficient. We thank them for their time (They are volunteers too!) and their wise counsel.
In the Strategic Planning article you will see the details on our upcoming Small-Group Evaluation Meetings. These meetings give each member an opportunity to have his or her voice heard and to shape the future of our organization. Every member's presence is important, whether you have been a member for 20 years or 2 weeks. We want to hear your ideas and opinions and we do act on your suggestions. Please try to save the morning of Wednesday, March 14 to attend the Evaluation Meeting in your area. We need your input to keep our chapter strong.

Small Group Evaluation Meetings will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 10:30 am at various venues. If you have not already signed up, please call your hostess to RSVP. We will be announcing the proposed officers for the upcoming 2018 - 2019 year, highlighting major accomplishments made from suggestions of last year's small-group meetings and giving input to the Action Plan and Timeline for our approved revised "Goals and Strategic Plan."

We finally got to introduce our new member, Sandi Remick, at last month's Regular Meeting.
She joined Assistance League of Hawaii in November and has participated in Operation School Bell and is interested in
Operation Wildlife when she's not traveling.
We also recognized 2 "STARS" that work behind the scenes to make our chapter run smoothly.
The first
STAR, Geri Johnson, joined us in 2016 and stepped up this year in accepting
the Chairmanship of the Hospitality Committee, which plans and coordinates all the venues
for our meetings. She works a lot upstairs and downstairs at the Thrift Shop.

The second STAR is Shirley Rebello, who has been with Assistance League of Hawaii for over 25 years. She is well
known for Co-Chairing the annual fashion show, which was the most anticipated of our annual
events here. Shirley is also responsible for a very successful linen department because the
linens are gone in no time when the are brought down to the sales floor.
Many thanks to our two STARS for giving their time and selves to make Assistance League of Hawaii thrive and make a difference in the lives of children and the community!

Pat Dixon continues to make good progress with Hale Kipa providing assistance to several students aging out of foster care. A sampling of what she has recently purchased is cookware, dishes, glasses, silverware, kitchen towels, and brooms.
Several members of We Care have been delivering Malama Bears. Wahiawa General Hospital received - 100, Castle Medical Center - 60, Hospice Hawaii - 20. On the schedule for delivery are Honolulu Fire Department - 100, Shriners Hospital -100, St. Francis Hospice - 60, Legacy of Life Hawaii 60 and Kapi'olani Pediatrics - 80. Additional bears will be delivered as the hospitals make their needs known. Each recipient receives the number of bears they request.

Operation Wildlife only has one Neighbor Island Trip in March, which is to Molokai with Anne Ranaldo and Andrea Cyriacks. No Oahu school presentations.
There are no Oahu school presentations scheduled in March. It is Spring Break!

Tutu Literacy Project
The librarians at Pu'uhale Schools are working with the Kahauiki Village to provide a library for their new preschool library. Thank you all for contributing over $200.00 for books at the last meeting. We have collected many books from the donations to the Thrift Shop, too. Our goal for 50 to 75 books is in sight.

February wasn't all "hearts and flowers" at the Thrift Shop. We have coped with the parking problems on Young Street. Now we face a week or two without an elevator. An expensive part apparently was blown out when Hawaiian Electric had an outage the day of our luncheon at the Kirin Restaurant. (The luncheon was terrific by the way). Debbie Muirhead has turned Bert's Room into a temporary sorting and pricing area and it has worked very well. And as usual, we cope.
However, in spite of all of this, sales have been quite good. Workers still volunteer for downstairs but there is always a need for more help on Thursdays and Fridays. We surely miss Diana. Thanks for all of your help and cooperation during these trying times.
