As God watched Saul disobey the orders given to him from God through Samuel, God rejected Saul as King. God gave another order to Samuel and that was to anoint someone else who would become the new king.
“So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.”
What we read and understand in these couple of chapters is that God used Samuel to speak his words and to do his bidding and Samuel did just as he was told; no more or no less. Samuel anointed David and then it says that he returned to Ramah.
How often has God called you, placed a burden upon your heart, asked you to pray for someone. If you are sometimes like me, I try to be obedient and do as I feel God is leading me; but then I ask myself: What more can I do? I think I need to try and do more because I feel I should, or I can. NOT! If I was obedient and did as I felt God was leading me, I need to allow God to do his work. Samuel did not know how God would take a shepherd boy and take him from the pasture to the throne. That was not Samuel’s responsibility; God would see to it. We need to obey God, and then let go, and let God.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
