Genesis 12:1-9

 By Penny Wrigley

This passage tells us of God’s orders to Abram and all the blessings that he would receive as a result of being obedient. Abram picked up his belongings and left his home, family and friends — not knowing where his final destination would be, but knowing God was leading him.

Does God require this type of obedience from us today? Does he ask us to move away from our friends and families to go to the unknown? Does he promise to bless us if we follow him into new and different areas of the country or world? Is it possible that God might be leading you into a new job because he has a plan for you there?

The answer is definitely “yes.” While it is hard to move hundreds of miles away from your family, God is always with you. You will find that God will bring people into your life that will become like family to you and will often become lifetime friends. The ultimate blessing though is the peace that comes when you know that you have done what God has asked of you and know that your obedience will be rewarded.

Dear God, help me to follow you wherever you lead me today.
