Jacob receives Isaac’s blessing, which was intended for Esau, through deception. This is a familiar story that is difficult to comprehend being part of God’s plan. God promised Jacob the same blessing as he had made to Abraham: “Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth and you will spread out to the west and to east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land … ” (28:14–15a). A deceiver receives God’s blessing!
Jacob acknowledged God and worshiped God. His heart was open to God’s plan for his life. God knew Jacob’s heart. God intended blessings for Jacob. Had Jacob not been a deceiver, it is without question that God would have his plan accomplished. God transforms hearts, people and circumstances for his purposes. No one should think they are beyond the use of God because of something done that was out of the will of God. God’s plan for each individual is obtainable for each one who yields to God. Acknowledge God as present. Acknowledge that God only is to be worshiped. Commit to yield to God’s leading through life. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob all yielded to God. They made mistakes as evidenced in the last few chapters. God had promised blessings to Abraham and his descendants. God fulfilled those promises and his plan. God knew the heart of each individual.
Lord, I am thankful you know each heart. Search my heart and cleanse my heart. Help me be a person with a heart of obedience and worship of you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
