Why is it that sometimes we want to do what God has called someone else to do and not be contented with what God has called us to do? Miriam, a prophetess, and Aaron, a prophet, are Moses’ older sister and brother. It appears Miriam and Aaron are a little jealous of all the attention that Moses was getting from God and, well, the people. They didn’t seem to care for the fact that Moses had a Cushite wife. They grumbled and complained and wanted Moses to know he isn’t the only one God speaks to.
Listen to how the Lord describes Moses in Numbers 12:3 (NIV) “Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.” It wasn’t like Moses was trying to hog the limelight or steal the show. Moses simply wanted to do what God had asked him to do. Read how God describes his relationship with Moses in Numbers 12:6–8 (NIV) “Listen to my words: ‘When there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?’”
You may not understand why God chooses to call people to do certain things, even things that you would never call on them to do, but remember, we do not see things the way God sees them. However, God is always right. Let me remind you that God has something he has designed for you to do. Seek his will and be contented with what God has called on you to do. That is all that God will hold you accountable for.
“Godliness with contentment is great gain” (apostle Paul).
