SLOW DOWN

“It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed” (Exodus 31:17).

Sometimes I say, “I think it’s written down somewhere that we’re supposed to take a nap on Sunday afternoon.” Well, actually, it sort of is. This Scripture passage does not say “Take a nap on Sundays” but we are to relax. I can go Monday through Saturday without a nap but it just seems that Sunday afternoons call for repose. Now relaxing might be different for each person. I like to lay back in my recliner, read for a bit and then sleep for a while. Others might relax by doing something they love, like playing a game, taking a walk, visiting with friends or family or going for a Sunday afternoon drive. We are to do whatever refreshes us to prepare us for the next six days.

The Lord built in this time for us. Let’s strive to take advantage of it.
