Reading about these festivals makes me homesick. I am from the great state of Louisiana where we celebrate everything. You name the food and there is probably a festival that goes with it. There is the rice festival and the yambalee (festival for yams). There are also the festivals for crawfish, strawberries, gumbo and boudin (a type of sausage made with rice and pork liver). There are many more. Why so many? It is because the people of Louisiana love to celebrate life.
God is a God of celebration. He wanted the Israelites to have celebrations as a part of their yearly routines. What were they to celebrate? They were to celebrate the many ways God had provided for them as a nation. They were to celebrate the Passover, the time God rescued them from Egypt. They were also to celebrate their harvest that God has given them.
Why should we be wrapped up in a time of celebration? First, we should celebrate as a memorial of what God has done. Second, we should celebrate to give thanks to God for his provisions for us during good times and bad. Third, we should celebrate as a witness to those around us that do not know God. They need to see that we do love and actively serve a God that works in the hearts and lives of his people.
So, whenever you get an opportunity, celebrate God. Remember all that he has done for you. And as you celebrate, you will be a witness to the greatness of our God.
