STOREHOUSE PROVISIONS
Tuesday, January 26, 2021
My wife is a terrific baker. She can bake anything she sets her mind to. However, there are those times when she is getting all her ingredients together, that she realizes that she is out of something she needs. For me, this usually means a trip to the nearest supermarket, which I gladly make, given I get to sample most all baked goods that come from the oven.

In our reading today, we discovered that many people in the land of Canaan were out of food. Some of these people were Jacob and his sons, the brothers of Joseph. Jacob and his family had come to the last of their stored rations and now it was time to make a decision. Scripture tells us that Jacob saw that there was food in Egypt, so to Egypt he would send his sons. Upon their arrival in Egypt, Jacobs’s sons found all the grain they needed. Yet Jacob had to send them, because according to our reading they were all just sitting around looking at one another. You can almost hear them can’t you?

“Levi, what are we going to do?”
“I don’t know Reuben, I don’t know.”
On and on, back and forth they wondered how they were going to survive the famine that had engulfed the land.

I think we are more like Joseph’s brothers than we like to admit. We have our struggles, our difficult times, our spiritual and emotional famines and we sit around wondering how we are going to survive. We do this while God, through Jesus, has provided all that we will ever need.

Jesus invites all who are weary and heavy with sorrows and burdens to come to him, yet we sit around waiting for what we do not know. Therefore, today, lets get up and go to Jesus in prayer, Bible study and gathering with his people. Let us do so because his storehouse is, and will always be, full.
