“So, Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the LORD has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the LORD has commanded” (Exodus 36:1).
I may be generalizing a bit, but my experience over the years has been that most churches believe that trustees should be men who can work with their hands and fix things in the church facility.
Well, one the best trustees my husband and I worked with, in all the churches in which we ministered, was a woman. She was the head trustee. She didn’t fix broken toilets, climb on ladders to change light bulbs or tighten wobbly stair rails, but she knew who to call to get it done. She was skilled at organization and she believed God’s house deserved the best. She knew who could take care of plumbing problems, who was good at laying tile in the kitchen, who liked to paint, and on and on.
God has given us all skills. Whether it’s cleaning up after a pot luck dinner or installing a new sound system, he expects us to use these skills for his church. And remember, it’s his church, not ours.
Father, open our eyes to the skills you have given us and make us willing to use them for your glory.
