Dedication
— People dedicated to specific tasks are described in Numbers 3–5. Each task was important to the setting up of the tabernacle in which God would meet with Moses and priests would carry out their functions. Assigned duties were repetitious. The setup required organization, teamwork and efficiency. Each task was part of the worship of God and fulfilled what God had planned.
Holiness
— Another necessary component was purity. Holiness of his people has always been God’s expectation. Holiness was possible only through obedience to God through Jesus. The commitment to be holy is paramount in the lives of those who worship God.
Commitment
— The commitment required to complete tasks and practice holiness is demonstrated through people who carry out the plan God has for them. One must be alert to God’s manner of assigning tasks to be performed and be willing to perform the tasks regularly.
The verses describe the process for dealing with wrongs. Confess sin, make atonement to come through Jesus and resolve to obey God’s commands.
God still assigns tasks to people. He has given spiritual gifts to those who confess their sins, accept Christ as their Savior and commit to obey God’s commands. What task has God assigned to you? For what part of your “tabernacle” has God given you the responsibility to complete faithfully and regularly? Are you dedicated to perform the task(s) God has prepared and gifted you to do?
Lord, help me accept the tasks you have given to me and will give to me with faithfulness. Open my eyes to follow your leading and my heart to be committed to obeying. In Jesus’ name, amen.
