Exodus 13:1-10

 By A. Cameron Ainsworth

“With a strong hand hath the Lord brought thee out of Egypt” (Exodus 13:9).

I never fail to be impressed by the power of God when I read of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. Any attempt to explain Israel’s escape from Egypt and her subsequent trek through the wilderness without God is doomed to failure. These people, possibly three million strong, were no match for the armies of Egypt, and yet they were far too many to find adequate sustenance in the wilderness country through which they passed. Not only were they led out of Egypt by God’s almighty hand, but they were also kept and cared for by this same hand of might.

The Christian, too, can celebrate his deliverance wrought by God’s almighty hand. He can say with the songwriter, “When he saved my soul, cleansed and made me whole, it took a miracle of love and grace.” And is it reasonable to believe that the same God who delivered Israel from the bondage of Egypt and who delivers the Christian from the bondage of sin, is unable to deliver us from the temptations and the snares which confront us each day? Our God is able to deliver! Let us face life with confidence!

Father, we give thanks again for our great salvation. And even as we think upon thy deliverance, may we be given grace to trust thee for today. In Christ, amen.
