Judges 16:1-22

By Bruce C. Burks

“He did not know that the Lord had departed from him” (Judges 16:20, NASB).

The stereo wouldn’t work. What was wrong? Was that turntable broken? Was there a short in the system? Had my daughter been playing with it again? Alas! It was unplugged. There was a power shortage.

How tragic that Samson didn’t realize his power had left him. Of course, his strength wasn’t in his hair, but in the Lord, whom he had disobeyed.

We, too, experience a power shortage whenever we sin and are out of God’s will. How tragic, when we have all power available to us, but are not plugged in!

How about you? Are you plugged into the eternal source of power today?

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from thy presence, and do not take thy Holy Spirit from me”

(Psalm 51:10-11).
