Do you ever wonder why Pharaoh was so obliging to Joseph’s Jewish family? Joseph remained in a close relationship to his God throughout his journey into the land of Egypt. He could have been hateful, bitter and rebellious, but instead he stayed steadfast in his commitment to God. He trusted him completely. God was able to use Joseph’s life to make an impact on the entire nation of Egypt. God was in the midst in the relationship between Pharaoh and Joseph. Pharaoh allowed Jacob’s family to settle in the best land of Goshen. The Israelites were able to grow and strengthen in a foreign land. God had a plan.

I am hoping that you, like me, are recognizing the enormity of Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream. God used Joseph to save Egypt and his own family. God had raised Joseph up to a position that Pharaoh respected enough to trust his plan for the famine. Had that not happened, this part of history would be drastically different. God has purpose and plans for our lives also. It may never be quite so dramatic, but certainly purposeful for the glory of God. Are you looking for your purpose? Do you desire a purpose only God can provide? Are you listening to God’s voice in your life? It takes intentionality to stay focused on God’s will. It takes effort not to stray into our own selfishness.

Our world is not getting easier for Christians to walk the narrow path. In my opinion, it would have been so easy for Joseph to disregard God because of his situation. How often do we look only as far as our immediate circumstances and really not even consider how God might use it to his glory? Life can be hard. Life can be joyful. Life can be confusing and frustrating. Life can be purposeful. God has control over our lives and I am so very thankful he chooses to use people like Joseph, you and me to do his will here on earth. 

Almighty and loving God, we praise you that you can use all circumstances to ultimately give you glory. Let us look to you for strength and purpose in our lives. Remind of us people like Joseph who stayed faithful throughout some very horrible situations in life.
