“David replied, ‘ … The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike’” (1 Samuel 30:23, NIV).
When David set out to attack those who had raided his camp and had taken the wives and children as well as belongings, some of the men who had fought faithfully with David were weary and tired. With David’s permission, they remained behind to guard the camp. Their job was just as important as those who went with David into battle. Therefore, David proclaimed that they receive an equal share in the plunder.
The person who sets the table is as important as the one in the kitchen cooking the meal. The person who picks up the used communion cups after the service is as important as the one filling the cups before the service. The people who tend the nursery are as important as those who sing in the choir. We all share in the rewards. God treats his children equally.
Let’s attempt to follow David’s example of this principle of the Lord.
