GOD IN THE CHAOS
Friday, January 22, 2021
Chaos, confusing, unsettling, turmoil. Have these words ever defined your days? To say that they defined the life of Joseph is an understatement.

Things seemed to start out fine for Joseph. He was born into a fairly well-to-do family with many brothers to watch out for him, to teach him the family business of shepherding and to be there for him to look up to. It wasn’t long, though, before chaos began to happen in Joseph’s life. One dream and his brothers turned against him and sold him into slavery where he was falsely accused of a crime and tossed into prison.

Like Joseph’s life, our lives can quickly change. One minute everything is going splendid and the next it is all spinning out of control. Once this happens, we can begin to ask all sorts of questions. We ask, why this chaos, why now and why me? Is God still in control? I don’t believe I deserve this!

I am sure that Joseph asked some variation of these questions. However, Joseph knew that in it all, God was at work. He knew that however things turned out, God was doing something in him, and that God would be glorified even in his own chaos.

Do we believe as Joseph did? Do we believe that in all the chaos (self-inflicted or others-inflicted), that God is in it all and that he will indeed work all things out for the good to those who love him and are called according to his purpose?

Father God. Thank you for being in the chaos. Thank you for caring for me and being sovereign over every event of my life. Open my eyes and ears that I might see you and hear you in all things. In Jesus name, amen!
