Growing up, I was never expected to excel at every subject, sport or task. I was, however, expected to give my best effort.

In our readings today, we see where the one who took a Nazirite vow was commanded to give his best effort at keeping his vow. We see where each of the leaders of the 12 tribes were commanded to make their best efforts and bring to the Lord that which he required. In the midst of the leaders making their offerings to the Lord, he spoke with Moses about what he planned to do and what his will for his people was.

I wonder today if we give our best efforts to God? Do we offer to him the best of our time, hold loosely to our finances, try our hardest at every task we do for him? 

I also wonder what we miss of God when we don’t give our best efforts for him. I wonder, do we not hear from God as we should? Is his will hidden from us because we give him a less than our best effort?

What effort will you give to God today?

Lord God, you have given us so much and in comparison, you require so little of us. help us to give our very best to you today and each day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
