Consecration
— To be consecrated to a specific purpose requires sacrifice and commitment. A Nazirite had many requirements to avoid specific actions. It meant learning, recognizing and anticipating situations for which one must implement alternative actions. Consecration is a determination to be wholly dedicated to a purpose for which God has called a person. It means to be set apart, subjected to God. Consecration is a decision, a firm commitment and a steadfast action.
Blessing
— The priestly blessing spoken in Numbers 6 has been repeated for years. God promises peace, protection and communion with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to those who trust in him and who worship him only and obey his commands. Consecration to God’s purpose brings blessings and peace. God spoke this blessing to be repeated by the priests to his people. We are his people today through Jesus Christ.
Offering
— Upon completion of the tabernacle, people brought offerings to the Lord. Each tribe brought offerings from the blessings God had bestowed upon them. The response to God’s blessings ought always to result in bringing offerings to him.
A Christian is set apart from the world as a Nazirite is to be. God calls us to be consecrated to him, to be set apart from the world. Do others recognize that you are “different” from others in your words, actions, judgments and priorities? Do others know you are a Christian by your love?
Lord, I want to live in consecration to you. Help me be set apart for your service and glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
