ON VIEW: Art Resource Group is pleased to announce a special work of art currently on display, a graceful mobile creation by Spanish artist Manuel Marin. We invite you to visit the gallery and view this captivating kinetic work of art.
Manual Marin (Spanish, 1942 - 2007)
Untitled
Painted metal
59 x 65 inches
About the Artist: In 1962, at the age of 20, Marin traveled from Spain to London, where he became an apprentice to renowned artist Henry Moore, assisting him with the fabrication of his bronze sculptures. Shortly thereafter, Marin moved to New York and attracted critical attention, both as a gallery owner and, later, as an artist in his own right.
Marin found his own artistic calling in 1969, creating the first of many critically acclaimed mobiles and stabiles, which he exhibited internationally. Marin was greatly inspired by the possibilities of kinetic art, and in particular the work of modernist master Alexander Calder, who, as the LA Times recently wrote, "gave sculptural form to currents of air."

The influence of Alexander Calder may be seen not only in Marin's work, which is on display at Art Resource Group, but also at the Orange County Museum of Art. OCMA is now host to the traveling exhibition Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: Form, Balance, Joy, which examines Calder's work and the way in which it continues to inspire art theory and practice to this day. The show includes 31 sculptures by Calder and 22 pieces by seven international contemporary artists influenced by him. I hope you are able to visit both of these exhibitions, which are on view in Newport Beach until September 4, 2011.
