On Saturday, April 17 join Clean Ocean Action for the annual Beach Sweep in Stone Harbor. Pre-registration is required. To sign up, please go to CleanOceanAction.ORG.
Volunteers should plan to meet at Beach Patrol Headquarters, 95th Street & the Beach. Event runs from 9am to noon. Bags and trash pickers will be provided.

This is also a BYOB event...(Bring Your Own Bucket), if possible.
This will cut down on the use of plastic bags.

Free Tree Seedlings

Beach Fortification Project in Avalon
The Borough of Avalon will conduct a sand back - passing project starting in late April, continuing until Memorial Day weekend. The project is necessary following repeated winter storms that resulted in severe erosion to Avalon's North end beaches. Villa Maria by the Sea Demolition Progress
Demolition has begun at Villa Maria by the Sea in Stone Harbor.

The three-story, 250-bed, summer-only retreat house that graced Stone Harbor since 1937 is to be demolished and replaced by a smaller, year-round retreat house for the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and a 13-lot residential subdivision.

The creation of the residential subdivision and the sale of the 13 lots, all of which would be beach block and steps to the beach, is intended to provide the funding for the demolition of the existing building, the construction of the new retreat house, and an endowment that could provide future income for maintaining the property.
