Make the Ultimate Escape in a Luxury Houseboat on Lake Powell

If you are in the mood to try something a little different, we have a suggestion: A Luxury Houseboat Vacation on Lake Powell. A getaway on the water offers you a truly unique summer escape opportunity. Give this some thought... Instead of a simple hotel room with only one view (if you're lucky), a large, luxurious Houseboat offers accommodations suitable for everyone in the family; plus, the view from your window changes every day!

WHAT TO DO AT LAKE POWELL:
Lake Powell offers a variety of activity and sightseeing options including Rainbow Bridge, the WORLD'S largest free standing natural rock bridge. You can spend the day using your ski boat to discover the side canyons of the lake. While there, you can swim, go tubing, kayaking...even try your hand at water skiing. Or, simply slip on your sunglasses and bask in the warm breeze on deck, fishing pole in hand. In the evening, reel in your dinner and set up some chairs for some not-so-primitive camping on the beach.

This unique area offers some of the most stunning landscapes to be found anywhere. An inland desert sea that formed when Glen Canyon Dam flooded its 'slick rock' canyon, Lake Powell has 1,900 miles of shoreline and 96 narrow side canyons to explore. Now this is a place that can really keep everybody in the family entertained..!

For a truly unforgettable experience, we recommend renting the ultimate in houseboats, featuring luxurious, over-the-top comfort and endless amenities, including hundreds of feet onboard for lounging (or dancing!), a fireplace, hot tub, multiple decks, and much more! If you really want to get an idea of  what you're going to get with one of these top-end luxury houseboats, check out the video below.

Pick of the Month:
Colorado Plateau

This month I am not going to recommend a hotel, restaurant, or any other sort of commercial enterprise in or around Lake Powell.  Instead, this month I am recommending you get yourself a four-wheel drive SUV, Jeep or ATV Quad and go on a little trip of discovery.

Lake Powell sits smack-dab in the middle of one of the most unique landscapes on Earth, the Colorado Plateau.  The plateau is a land of unsurpassed raw natural beauty on such a grand scale it would take several lifetimes to explore and discover it all.  Even then you would probably just barely scratch the surface.  But any time spent exploring the Colorado Plateau is time well spent.  Therefore, I recommend you get out and do some exploring on your own.  It'll be one of the most memorable experiences you'll ever have.  And here's how...

In-the-Know TraveL Tip:
SPF SMARTS, PART II

If boating, rafting or swimming is included in your summer itinerary, prepare beforehand so your vacation is filled with fun in the sun, not stress.

We recommend packing the following UV-savvy items:

*Waterproof sunscreen with SPF 30+ (the stronger SPF, the better) and a "broad spectrum" label. (protects agains UVA and UVB rays) Reapply every 2 hours. Every. 2. Hours!

*Sunglasses with UV protection; choose designs that are close-fitting or a wraparound style. Shy away from shades that don't provide UV info.

*Lip Balm with SPF 15+ (Acai-Blueberry-Pomegranate flavor, anyone?)

*Large Hat or sun visor. The styles have improved from 15 years ago, we swear.

*1-2 black tea bags. If you still end up "feeling the burn" by evening, steep a tea bag in boiling water, let cool, then dab on your burn for about 5 minutes. If you follow our advice correctly, the tea is for sipping only.
