You Can Make a Difference!

Bikur cholim, the mitzvah of visiting the sick, represents the essence of Jewish values—reaching out to those in pain to help them heal. A simple conversation with someone in a hospital can uplift their spirits and make a tough day a little brighter.

You can make a difference in someone's life by becoming a bikur cholim volunteer!

Training sessions are led by Rabbi MJ Newman, the Rabbinic Chaplain at Greenwich Hospital. Become part of our next cohort of volunteers!

Training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday evenings on October 15, October 22, October 29, November 5, and November 12. For more details or to register, please reach out to Jessica Berger. We encourage you to participate and help make a positive impact.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Summer!

In July, we launched “Healthy Kids, Healthy Summer,” an initiative for newcomer clients up to the age of 18, to inspire and encourage children to be physically active, creative, and healthy in body and mind during summer vacation! The program includes distribution of bicycles/scooters and protective helmets, as well as tasty, healthy snacks! Families received grocery store gift cards to encourage healthy eating during the summer months when kids may not always have access to balanced meals. These are a few of our young clients enjoying their brand-new bicycles and scooters!

Francesca Jones, a rising senior at Hackley School, has shown remarkable dedication in her two years as a volunteer with JFS. Every Sunday she visits a Venezuelan family to spend time with their two boys. Activities include grammar exercises, vocabulary flash cards, reading news articles or Percy Jackson books, playing games, and cooking. Francesca's commitment is evident in the consistent effort she puts into building meaningful connections and providing valuable support to the boys each week! If you are a student and would like to volunteer with JFS, please contact the Volunteer Department.
