RISE
One voice. One heart. One MMS.
We say thank to our School Lunch Heroes: Ms. Rocio, Ms. Luz, Ms. Tricia, and Ms. Jenny (not pictured). They have been instrumental in our success as a school. We are grateful for all the ways they give to our students, beyond just serving lunch.
Maitland Middle School Community Brief

Maitland Middle Community Member
Welcome to Day 165 of 180 Days of Being One. It is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! It is an honorable and noble profession to be a part of. Can you imagine the many lives that have been impacted over the course of these last 165 days? Our teachers have shown why they are the best. The empathy, the accountability, the compassion, the tough love, the encouragement, and so much more that they give and show exemplifies why they are the best. We are looking forward to celebrating all the great things about our teachers.

This week we are wrapping up state testing. We are so excited about the success of our students. This Tuesday we will have Civics and 8th Grade Science. We look forward to sharing how we did.

Also, this week we have our End of Year Field Trips. If you are chaperoning, please check your email. Ms. Dowdy sent pertinent information that will be helpful for each day. We hope for great weather conditions.

We are excited about our end of year celebration as a school! This will be in place of our pep rally. We will be hosting an end of year celebration field day/carnival time. This will be held May 17th toward the end of the day. We are looking for some parent volunteers to help facilitate games and activities. Please reach out to Ms. Alicia Dowdy at Alicia.Dowdy@ocps.net. We have so much to celebrate this year. What a great way to close out The Year of One!
Reflection for the Week
This past week included Principal Appreciation Day. I was pleasantly surprised by the gifts and encouragement I received. I say thank you again to the most wonderful school community that has made this journey amazing. I often look back over my life and smile in amazement. Can you imagine a bobble headed, lanky kid playing in the dirt under an oak tree in his grandmother’s yard, to now being an Instructional Leader? One day I should take you all on a trip to my little island in South Carolina. All this to say dreams do come true when you put in the work. Let’s remind our scholars to dream, put in the work, and make the most of every opportunity.
Together We Rise. One Voice. One Heart. One MMS!

Golden Hawk of the Week:
Madison Bokash
Our Golden Hawk of the Week is none other than Madison Bokash. Maddie is one of those hidden treasures. She is studious, helpful, works behind the scenes and makes our lives a joy. We appreciate you so much!
Soar Award:
Mrs. Ashcraft passing the SOAR award to Mr. Garrett

It is with great pleasure that I get to present the SOAR Award to Mr. Joshua Garrett. Last year when I aided in his interview process, I knew that Mr Garrett was going to become a great asset not only to our Science Dept., but also to Maitland Middle and he has been that breath of fresh air that we needed. He has taught me new ways of delivering content and in a shorter time frame. Mr. Garrett has taught me that the old “this is the way we do it here” ways are not always the best approach for our students and that change is okay. Because of him, we have not only taught everything in our scope and sequence, but we have also had scheduled time to review for our PMAs, which is something that we haven’t been able to do in the past. Due to these updates in 8th grade science, our scores have skyrocketed! I have not only gained a brilliant PLC partner in crime, but also an amazing friend. ~ Mrs. Ashcraft
