Through the Foundation's support, Maine East’s A Cappella group, under the direction of teacher Kate Lee, attended a 3-day retreat to Lorado Taft Field Campus in early October. Their days consisted of nature hikes, board games, multiple rehearsals to learn music for their upcoming performances, songs around the campfire, team-building, and sharing meals. One of the highlights was singing "Auld Lang Syne" for the dining staff after breakfast on the last morning to thank them for hosting the group.
This was an amazing experience for both the students and Ms. Lee. They learned music and created unforgettable memories and bonds that will be the foundation upon which they continue to grow as musicians and individuals throughout the year. One student shared her thoughts on the experience. “...many of us students grew - in a way we hadn’t thought of. The A Cappella retreat was full of laughter, friendship, music, and life. The countless hours of rehearsal weren’t as weary, knowing that I was spending time with those who meant so much to me… all I want is to go back to that place, with those people, and share the time that we have so little of.”
