OC SANITATION DISTRICT OPEN HOUSE

It was a day of education, celebration, and community spirit! The Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) recently celebrated its 70th anniversary and the opening of its new headquarters with an open house! MWDOC joined the celebration by hosting a booth featuring valuable water-saving tips and information on water-smart rebates. Attendees enjoyed tours of the brand-new facility, learned about crucial water-related issues from various Orange County agencies, and were treated to live music and family-friendly fun.

WEEA LEADERSHIP ROUNDTABLE #18

How do Water Energy Education Alliance (WEEA) participants unleash workforce development potential? At our final WEEA Leadership Roundtable meeting of the fiscal year, expert panelists from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power - the largest municipal utility in the nation - revealed their winning strategies for developing successful workforce programs through strategic partnerships with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Following the presentation, attendees engaged in a lively discussion, exploring innovative ways to build a resilient, sustainable workforce, drawing on insights delivered in the presentation.

POSTER CONTEST AWARDS CEREMONY

Orange County students are making waves! In June, MWDOC celebrated talented K-12 artists at our Water Awareness Poster Contest Awards Ceremony. Our 40 winners and their families enjoyed a fun-filled day at Shipley Nature Center with hands-on activities and opportunities to share their insights on water awareness and its significance in our communities.

FESTIVAL OF THE BUTTERFLIES

OC hearts were aflutter last weekend at the 10th annual Festival of the Butterflies. MWDOC was there to celebrate this milestone by offering water-saving tips, information on rebates, and fun giveaways to over 400 attendees. Families engaged in hands-on educational experiences, live entertainment, and more at this celebration of nature and community.

This water-smart transformation replaced 791 sq. ft. of grass with California-Friendly plants, drip irrigation, and a stormwater capture feature to increase water savings. This transformation will save an inspiring 37,600 gallons of water annually, providing this OC resident with real savings!

ORANGE COUNTY WATER DISTRICT
A Record Year of Recharge
Congrats to MWDOC member agency, the Orange County Water District (OCWD), which has tapped into success with a chartbusting year of groundwater recharge! OCWD announces a record-breaking accomplishment in groundwater recharge for the fiscal year 2023-24: over 90 billion gallons of water have been replenished into the ground between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024. This milestone marks the highest volume of water recharged into OCWD’s basins in Anaheim and Orange since record-keeping began in the 1940s.
