For the latest updates, trends, and opportunities for all things
multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs)
Season’s Greetings,

In the midst of a challenging year across the world with the persisting COVID-19 pandemic, violence, natural disasters, and other crises, we have witnessed tremendous resilience and dedication from our IMPT network partners. Your research and advocacy are vital to ensuring that the agenda for multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs)—products being designed to prevent a combination of HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and/or unintended pregnancy—moves forward.

Earlier this year, we published two new gap analyses outlining the priority action areas for the MPT field and completed the annual update to our MPT product pipeline database, which now boasts 24 MPT candidates in active development. We’re also happy to share several opportunities and some new resources that we want to make sure you don’t miss.

We are deeply grateful for your continued engagement in the MPT field. We wish you a safe and joyous holiday, and look forward to collaborating with you in 2021!

Best regards,
IMPT Secretariat

The NICHDs' state-of-the art Biological Testing Facility supports female and/or male non-hormonal contraception development, including MPTs. This opportunity is to support the enablement of an IND/IDE study of a pre-clinical candidate that offers a safe, non-hormonal based therapy for female and/or male contraception that acts prior to fertilization and does not act via the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. This opportunity includes translational studies to facilitate the pre-clinical to clinical transition and increase the likelihood of clinical success, as well as behavioral and social research projects. Submit a Letter of Intent by 29 October 2021.

“Let’s Talk MPTs” from the IMPT
The IMPT launched a new webinar discussion series to address the priority action areas that we identified through our recent MPT fieldwide gap analyses and stimulate interest in the MPT field. In this series, we will cover an array of topics that will help advance the MPT field, including vaginal microbiome, sociobehavioral and market research, toxicity studies, and more. Look out for future webinar invites.

Watch our discussion on the role of the vaginal microbiome and MPTs with Dr. Jacques Ravel and Dr. Jennifer Deese.

Due to the excitement from this first webinar, we're looking to offer you a follow-up dialogue on the vaginal microbiome in 2021.
