Capturing the Value of the CMP Study Group
Did you know that the MPI CRV chapter boasts at least 20 current members who have attained their CMP designation? That's over 16% of the membership! No doubt, our strength in this segment can be attributed back to
our robust CMP study group.
For the past 10 years, MPI CRV has hosted an annual CMP study group for three or more members per season.
Each annual program lasts 11 weeks and consists of 10 weeks of content review, followed by a 3-hour exam review class. The study group meets at a sponsored venue in central CT and works on facilitator-led quizzes, interactive exercises, and discussions of CMP study materials. The CMP study group is led by other recent CMPs in the chapter who assist with facilitating a class and give their advice on how to ace the exam.
We are currently taking inquiries for a Spring 2016 CMP Study group that would prepare attendees for the May or August 2016 exams. Study Group sessions are 1.5 hours each (with a final 3 hour review session) and count toward clock hours for the CMP application.
Contact Kate Copeland, MPI CRV President, for more information at kate.copeland@uconn.edu.

Members: $75.00

Mary Beth Staron
Marketing Director for Business Development Lead Generation, Marketing Communications Event Resources, Inc.
Mary Beth's thoughts on what volunteering
with MPI CRV means to her:
"Volunteering isn't just painting a mural at a school or feeding the homeless. It's more of doing what you love to do for people who need some help. Being a volunteer can look and feel unique to each person, because everyone has different skills and passions. For me, it's marketing communications. After 30 years I still love it.
As a volunteer, I've use my Marcomm experience to write press releases for the local news outlets, created/promoted educational events for industry associations, taken monthly Board Meeting notes as well as the mundane task of shrink wrapping auction gifts (and yes, there is a technique for it!).
My current assignment for MPI is setting up a networking event for October. Following on the heels of Speed Networking at Infinity Hall will be tough. That was a great event! Hopefully everyone will be pleased to enjoy an evening at Muse Paintbar in West Hartford. It's something different, and I've wanted to try my hand at painting for quite some time. We'll all create a piece of art while spending time with a great group of people. A win-win for all. That's what volunteering is all about. "
What her peers are saying about Mary Beth's work:
"Mary Beth has always been willing to volunteer an article for our MPI CRV newsletters since I've met her. It is wonderful to work with someone who is so willing to provide their time and expertise writing to share their experience at a past event with our chapter, or the word about an upcoming events or trends in our industry. Also, during our Speed Networking event at Infinity Hall & Bistro in August, Mary Beth took the initiative to document the fantastic event and provided us with the photos to share with all of you!"

Amanda Whitehead, Program Coordinator, University Events and Conference Services, UCONN, MPI CRV VP Communications
"Mary Beth has been working with me on the October "Event Horror Stories" After 5 networking event. She has been in touch with Muse paint bar to detail a night at the paint studio - which will be lots of fun.
She has a lot of great ideas and many industry connections that make her a valuable resource for not only my committee for special events, but also for the entire MPI CRV Organization. I am lucky to work with her on these events and we are lucky to have someone who has out of the box ideas to motivate our members into being more active in our chapter events! She is also on our "networking / after 5" committee and has been a great resource for auction items and ideas for events even outside of the networking ones!"
