Superintendent's Message

Dear Mt. Pleasant Community,

As we near the end of the school year, I share my most sincere gratitude for our community’s commitment to our students' growth. Together, we have achieved remarkable accomplishments, from the vibrant celebrations of Nuestra Herencia, Lunar New Year, and Black History Month, to the impactful initiatives of our PIQE program, Latino Literacy Project, Guest Author Series, and many others!

To our graduating class: Congratulations! Your journey ahead holds many new opportunities, and we know your futures are as bright as you! We can’t wait to hear from our alumni, so please stay connected and share with us the remarkable accomplishments that lie ahead on your path.

To all our students advancing to the next grade, you have shown incredible dedication and resilience, and we are so proud of your achievements. Let's carry this dedication forward into the next academic year and strive to make it even better than the last.

Together, let's continue to empower, inspire, and unite our MPESD community for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Dr. Elida MacArthur

Celebrating Our Incredible MPESD Team

During the month of May, we want to express our gratitude to our amazing MPESD team! Your dedication and passion are essential to our success, and we are fortunate to have such a committed team. Every day, you go above and beyond, which does not go unnoticed. Whether providing meals, teaching in the classroom, assisting students, supporting parents, providing supervision, keeping our schools clean, or caring for students when they're unwell, your contributions are invaluable in making MPESD a thriving community. Thank you for everything you do!

Annual Fishing Trip

Mt. Pleasant Elementary Ida Jew Academy had a blast at Ed Levin Park, joining the Rotary Club of San Jose for a day of fun! Twenty-eight enthusiastic 3rd graders attended the annual fishing event, fostering community engagement and many teachable moments. Thank you to the Rotary Club for the BBQ lunch, snacks, and fishing tackle boxes. MPESD students had a great time learning to cast and even caught three out of four fish!

Successful Career Day in August Boeger!

Inspiring and informative! That’s a great way to describe Career Day at August Boeger Middle School.

Career Day presenters, former students, and other community professionals, including Career Pathway representatives, shared their knowledge, expertise, and advice with our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Thank you to all for empowering and motivating our students.

Among the presenters was Victor Noguera, an alum of August Boeger Middle School, who is now an engineer. The story of his education and career journey included his experience as an English Language Learner and how an English teacher supported and prepared him for success. That English teacher was Ms. Raquel Topete, the current August Boeger Principal, who asked Victor to come back to his alma mater and share his story with her middle school students. Victor is proof that August Boeger students can succeed when provided support, opportunities, and a caring role model.

Summer Programs and Summer Camp at MPESD

Our theme this year for Summer Programs is "Summer to Shine!" We are taking over the Ida Jew Academy/Valle Vista and August Boeger campuses. Mr. Anthony Alvarado (IJAVVE Principal) and Ms. Marisa Peña (AB/IJAVVE Student Advisor) will be sharing the duties of Summer School Principal. We are planning fun activities, such as assemblies and a student store.

Our Math and Literacy programs will run from 8 AM - 12 PM, June 12 - July 12 (no classes on 6/19, 7/4, or 7/5). Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Extended care will be available for all Summer Programs students beginning at 7 AM. Families with students that have been enrolled into our Math or Literacy programs have been notified via email. All students who are enrolled in the Math and Literacy programs will have the opportunity to enroll in Summer Camp.

We still have a few openings in some classes, so we are now accepting students on waitlists for our literacy and math programs. If students are removed from the waitlist, parents will be notified by email and students will receive an enrollment form at school.

Summer Program orientation will be held in the AB gym on Tuesday, June 4, beginning at 5 PM. All families should continue checking their emails for updates on Summer Program.

If your child is invited to Summer Program and is placed on the waiting list, OR if your child doesn't attend a school in our district you may register for Summer Camp. Summer Camp is free for students in our district. The cost is $750 per child for students who do not attend our district.

Please note: DO NOT PAY IF your child attends August Boeger, Ida Jew, Robert Sanders, Mt. Pleasant, or Valle Vista. Please use the link below to register:

Meals Distribution During Summer

and Recipe Contest

Good nutrition is key to being healthy! The school district will serve meals this summer from June 12 through July 30, 2024, at Ida Jew Academy Valle Vista Elementary and Robert Sanders Elementary School

Breakfast will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meals are free to all children ages 0 to 18 years of age.

We congratulate all students who participated in our recipe contest! We sent out a call for recipe submissions throughout the district. The theme was: "Family Favorite Recipes: Reimagined."

Four students were chosen as finalists, with three of them competing in person at August Boeger.

Students were provided with all of the ingredients needed to prepare their dishes in an open kitchen set up where their family and teachers watched and cheered them on.

Our panel of judges was made up of Principal Topete, Principal Carson, and Principal Alvarado. The student dishes were tasted and rated across five categories: originality, healthy attributes, ease of preparation, kid appeal, plate presentation and taste.

The ground beef Sliders took home the grand prize, a Faberware cooking set! Thank you, chefs!

Supporting an Inclusive School Culture

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) are core values at MPESD. We are committed to creating an anti-racist, compassionate and inclusive school culture where every individual is treated with dignity in our diverse community. In the month of May, students focus on Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Jewish American Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, and Memorial Day. The character trait students will learn about is Fairness/Equity.

DEIB lessons in June are about LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Juneteenth and Father's Day. The character trait is Pride.

If you are interested in learning more about DEIB, please reach out to your school to further the conversation. Thank you for supporting an inclusive school community!
