Thank You for a School Year of Learning and Accomplishments

Dear Mt. Pleasant Community,

I extend my appreciation to our community for your support advancing the academic proficiency of our students. Together, we accomplished goals and celebrated our district as a very special place with an amazing community that values learning, diversity, and commitment to every student.

Just recently we celebrated our dedicated MPESD team. Their contributions make our district a thriving community and empower our students to do their best.

We also recognized MPESD’s Volunteers of the Year! We thank parents, guardians, and community members for their contributions to our schools.

Ida Jew Academy and Valle Vista Elementary School earned a Civic Learning Award of Distinction! This is an honor that recognizes measurable schoolwide

achievements in civics, and awarded schools have made extraordinary contributions to building the leaders of tomorrow.

We participated in the San Jose Eastside Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival! About fifty-five MPESD educational partners joined the parade, including hosting a resource booth, and our elementary folklorico students performed onstage.

MPESD teachers and students were recognized by the Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators at the ceremony, Lifting Every Voice: A Celebration of Our Shared Legacy, which honored Spiritual Consciousness, Leadership/Civic Involvement and Academics.

We congratulate our band students, who had the opportunity to perform with some of the best bands in Northern California at the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) event. They earned a bronze medal, scoring a rating of "3/Good".

The Latino Literacy Project was inspiring! Led by Mariel Nuñez and Claudia Jones, this 10-week program for MPESD parents aimed to establish and support family reading routines, improve English-language skills and Spanish literacy skills, and strengthen parent/child interaction.

MPESD held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new and improved Mt. Pleasant/ IJA ALAS administrative office! Staff and students are excited about this new facility improvement, the two new kindergarten classrooms, and the newly remodeled parking lot. We also celebrated other improvements made to our facilities, such as the paver project at the Ida Jew Academy campus, and new landscape work done as part of the Mt. Pleasant parking lot renovation. We are creating an engaging and safe learning environment for our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your support as we modernize and upgrade infrastructure!

We continue to support students on their pursuit of higher education! We informed our students and families about CalKIDS, a California state program that jumpstarts children’s savings for higher education and career training. Each child born in California starting on July 1, 2022, as well as eligible low-income public school students, are awarded a CalKIDS college savings account with an initial deposit in it.

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who engaged in supporting your students through the participation in parent conferences, PIQUE events and training.

Our district is committed to supporting and providing academic and developmental initiatives offered before, during and after school hours such as Reading Partners, Air Tutors, Sunrise Club, After School Tutoring and MPAS program.

At Mt. Pleasant, we celebrate diversity and equality. Throughout the school year, we acknowledged the invaluable contributions, legacy and traditions of our diverse communities and ancestries.

We are grateful for everyone’s support! I wish you all a summer filled with cherished moments, and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall!
