MORRIS TOWNSHIP WEBSITE NOW INCLUDES “ALL THINGS SENIOR”
The Township goal is to have one easy-to-access site for a variety of existing useful and helpful resources for older adults in the Township, County and State. We have so much to offer our seniors!
Morris Township, NJ: In 2022 Morris Township passed an ordinance to form the Senior Advisory Committee (SCAC) to “make recommendations to the Township Committee regarding the needs of senior citizens and assist in fulfilling those needs - especially in the areas of transportation, housing, medical care, and related issues affecting seniors.”
As a first step in 2022, a Needs Survey was developed, and 589 seniors responded. That was followed up in 2023 with groups of residents invited to in-person Focus Groups to discuss in small groups additional input and clarification of those needs. Key themes from the Focus Groups were that there was a lack of awareness of available resources, and the need for more communication and support to better utilize technology.
As a result, the Morris Township website was expanded to include Senior Resources of the already existing social, educational, recreational, transportation, health/medical and housing resources that are in our Township, County and State. For those seniors who need help with technology, Morris County Library’s offers “drop in” technical support every Monday from 2 to 4 pm for those who may need help.
The Senior Advisory Committee has additional ongoing initiatives in the areas of transportation, recreation, and housing. The SCAC is under the guidance of the Township Mayor Donna Guariglia. Former Mayor, Cathy Wilson, guided the formation of the SCAC and the key initial stages of the Needs Survey and Focus Groups in 2022 and 2023.
