February 2023 Newsletter

Dear MMAMTA members,

Happy February! I hope you are enjoying the unusual warmer than usual weather! I don’t think I remember such a warm February since I came to Columbia in 2015.

February 17th will be the Odyssey’s Baroque Concerto which will have in the program the performances of the three winners of the MMAMTA/Odyssey Pre-Collegiate Aria & Concerto Competition. The concert will start at 7:00 PM and will be at the First Baptist Church of Columbia.

With a variety of music events happening in March, February is a busy month with lots of preparation. Beginning the end of this month, we will have Musicathon, Federation, besides MSHSAA music festival, so I’m keeping this newsletter short.

If there is anything you would like me to share in the next newsletter, please contact me by the end of February and I’ll be happy to include it.

COLUMBIA MUSICATHON, Feb 25 (Sat), 11am-5pm

This is the only fundraiser that helps fund music scholarships for our music students attending summer camps or colleges as music major/minor. Many students benefited greatly from the past summers! Let's keep supporting our community music students.

Musicathon doubles as a friendly run-through for your Federation program, and just overall sharing of the music. I encourage memorization for Federation music, but you are welcome to bring any additional music to just read or have fun making music.

ALL instruments are welcome!

What to do:

1. Use this GoogleDoc to sign-up.

2. Let's do a bake sale: If you have (bags of) cookies you could donate, let me know.

3. Purchase a raffle ticket to win a gift basket including a $100 Amazon gift card! (More details of its content will be shared closer to the event.)

Cash/checks only, payable to "MMAMTA." *While MTNA is a non-profit, we regret MMAMTA cannot issue tax receipts.
