"On February 8th and 9th, we had the pleasure of hosting the AgTech Summit and a student breakfast with none other than Karen Ross, Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. At the ACE Pavilion industry professionals, local educators, and agriculture students alike came together to learn about where the industry is headed as it evolves with the integration of advanced technology. In bringing many people together, the attendees had the opportunity to exchange perspectives and insights with the Secretary, which was especially unique for the students and aspiring ag leaders. MJC had Sienna Davies—Young Farmers Secretary—and I on the panel to represent aspiring ag students at the collegiate level; sharing our backgrounds was a nice experience, but having our secretary ask us to talk about our perspectives on agriculture today showed how much she cares about us young people. As the agricultural field continues to endure new challenges, she reminded us how we can’t forget about teaching the generations coming up—they’re the future, simply put."
