February 2024

Principal's Message

Greetings,

As we step into February, some of our focus shifts towards the exciting prospect of the 2024-25 school year through the course selection process. To ensure a smooth transition, students were introduced to this process in their Advisory class on January 3rd. This year, our dedicated counselors will be meeting individually with sophomores and juniors to delve into their course selections, explore course sequences, and discuss connections to post-secondary plans. Freshmen, on the other hand, will have the chance to engage with counselors during their English classes on February 8-9, posing any questions they may have about their class options.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 12, as it is our ACT testing date. On this day, all juniors will take the ACT, and the remaining students will enjoy a morning without classes. All students are off in the afternoon. Additionally, Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for early March, taking place on the 5th and 13th. It's a valuable opportunity for parents to connect with teachers and discuss their child's progress.

To celebrate academic excellence, we recognize academic achievement at the end of each semester. The Honor Roll consists of students with a GPA between 3.5 and 3.74, while the High Honor Roll spotlights those students with a GPA of 3.75 to 4.0. This recognition is irrespective of their prior GPA, providing an opportunity for each student to be recognized based on their past semester’s performance. We proudly present the Honor Roll students—congratulations to each of you!

As we continue to navigate through the winter months, I appreciate your continued partnership.

Respectfully,

Mitch McGrath

MG Superintendent Search Process Update

After more than 30 years in education and over two decades in school and district administration, Monona Grove School District Superintendent Dan Olson announced in December his plans to retire at the end of the current school year. MGSD is now engaged in a comprehensive search for the next superintendent.

In its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration, MGSD will engage all constituents of the district (students, families, staff, community members and other stakeholders) to share their valuable insights, perspectives, and expectations for the next educational leader.

An electronic survey will be available for any Monona Grove stakeholder to share their input and feedback. The survey will be emailed to staff and families in February and will be available on our website for all other stakeholders.

Focus groups will be held in February (both virtually and in-person); dates and times are listed on the Superintendent Search page of our website. More details will be available soon.
