Youth & Generations
Small bites! Supervisors of a younger generation must adapt to small bites of instruction and affirmations. This method not only respects their unique learning style but also fosters a sense of value and belonging, which can enhance retention and development. Trying to make Gen Z, and the like, be who you are is not the answer to workforce development. You can blame social media or the generation that raised them. Regardless, playing to the knowledge that they are accustomed to instant gratification will benefit your team. Break it down!
What’s the return on investment of adapting your supervising and career mentoring to small bites? They are valued for who they are, they stay, they are developed and just maybe, they get it done faster and better in the long run. Constructive feedback, delivered in the same incremental manner, can further reinforce learning and performance. Ultimately, by embracing this 'small-bites' method, supervisors may find themselves rapidly adapting to keep pace with the swift learning curve of their Gen Z employees. If the Gen Z employee can be given a bit of mentoring responsibility of their own to partner with the next new employee, it will amplify their engagement and contribute to a supportive work environment. Happy Supervising!
