MEM Welcomes Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago
Students volunteered for the "Engineering 101" event 

 
The MEM Student Advisory Board teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to host an "Engineering 101" event on October 24th.  Ellen Worsdall, McCormick's Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, helped to organize the day's events and offered the opening introduction to the over 40 guests.
 
Dean Worsdall's opening remarks were followed by an ice-breaker event where the "littles" and "bigs" split up and created a device to solve a problem.  During lunch guests listened to an engineering panel hosted by four engineering students, including current MEM students. To conclude the day there were several hands-on activities or lab tours offered, including two car demonstrations, a material sciences presentation, and an interactive SWE lab.

A special thank you to Anil Joy, former Chair of the Student Advisory Board, for spending countless hours to help organize this event.

New members elected to represent the MEM student voice
Congratulations to all 11 individuals voted to become the next MEM Student Advisory Board! 
 
The Student Advisory Board (SAB) was founded in 2014 to be the voice of the Master of Engineering Management students. The SAB is responsible for hosting monthly networking events, social events, competitions and workshops. The board represents many different audiences and is comprised of both part-time and full-time students. 
MEMPC Fall Meeting Hosted by Cornell
Members from seven MEM programs discuss best practices & challenges
 
On November 12th and 13th, MEM Adjunct Professor Peggy Matson represented Northwestern University at the Master of Engineering Management Programs Consortium at Cornell University.  The MEMPC meets bi-annually to discuss best practices in areas such as admissions, marketing, corporate engagement, and alumni development. 
 
The meeting brought together representatives from each school to discuss how they can better engage prospective and current students, alumni and industry leaders. A main focus this year has been to increase the awareness of the MEM degree - including the MEMPC's attendance at the Grace Hopper conference and the creation of a new MEMPC website.

MEM Student Spotlight
Andrew Nachenberg

Andrew is a 27-year-old current student from Grayslake, Illinois. For undergrad, he stayed in the Midwest and attended Michigan State University. He is currently a project engineer at Medline Industries and serves as the Chair of the MEM Student Advisory Board. Andrew enjoys exercising and has a hidden talent as a karaoke singer.

Andrew feels the best part about the MEM program is  being surrounded by so many talented and interesting engineers coming from such diverse backgrounds. He believes the program is  the perfect mix of business and advanced engineering courses. 

Andrew's word of advice to future students is to, "Take part in the extracurricular activities, especially the networking and social events in Chicago!"
