COVINGTON, KY- Covington Police arrested John C. Lewis, 38, of Lexington, KY following a vehicle pursuit that ended on I-75 South near the Kyles Lane exit.
Last night at around 11:47 p.m., Covington Police were alerted to a Cincinnati Police vehicle pursuit entering Covington via I-75 South. Dispatch reported the driver was believed to have several felony warrants including charges for Burglary, Robbery, and Intimidating a Witness. Covington officers joined the pursuit before the suspect, later identified as Lewis, stopped the car on I-75 South near the Kyles Lane Exit. A lengthy standoff ensued shutting the interstate down in both directions.
Elsmere officers used a drone and determined Lewis was possibly overdosing. Covington officers were forced to break the car's windows and remove Lewis from the vehicle to render aid. The car was reported stolen out of Lexington, KY.
Lewis was taken into custody and immediately transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for evaluation. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit being treated for the overdose and is listed in stable condition. Lewis is being charged with Fleeing and Evading 1st Degree, Receiving Stolen Property >$10,000, Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His warrants for Burglary 2nd Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, and Intimidating a Witness will also be served.
