Maine SUD Learning Community Newsletter

Kristen B Silvia, MD

"What I love about my work is when someone can get healthier, stop using substances or use less substances, and I watch somebody who was in a state where they had a lot of misery move towards health and recovery. It is inspiring to see what happens for them, what they can achieve, and how that transforms them, their family, and the community around them.”

Opening the “black box” of organizational coaching for implementation
"This is a randomized design with 70 plus community treatment providers from Ohio, Florida, and Wisconsin, over a 5 year period, looking at the impact of coaching on MOUD implementation and expansion. Coaching and technical assistance resulted in significantly faster implementation and increasing over all capacity compared to no coaching or technical assistance."

-Eric Haram, Haram Consulting, LLC. Co-author and Ohio coach in the project.

Personal Recovery Story

Carly and Brinn Flagg

The Flagg sisters understand feeling alone and like they don’t fit in. Luckily, they’ve been on a journey together and found each other at the other end of it. Five years apart, Carly and Brinn Flagg grew up in a loving, tight knit family with their parents and middle sister Haley.

It would be simplistic and incorrect to say that a loving tightknit family will protect someone from feelings of inadequacy or insecurity.
