Minnesota Farmer Harold Wolle Become NCGA President

Harold Wool, a corn farmer from MAdelia, Minn., took over as President of the National Corn Growers Association this week. Deer 'hot spots' Hammering Shore Fields

Nagel and Eberspacher said they are not alone in facing more intensive crop damage from deer, especially in the Southern Dorchester County. They point to a growing and expanding Sika deer herd as the main cause but add fenced-off fields of solar panels and a substantial increase in acres of non-food crop as contributors. Maryland County Finds Operator for Grain Elevator

Anne Arundel County reached an agreement with an operator to reopen its Lothian grain elevator last week just in time for the fall harvest, ending weeks of concern among many Southern Maryland growers about where they would sell their crop. Warfield Brothers, a Howard County grain dealer, plans to reopen the million-bushel facility this week. Read more here.

State Approves Merging Catoctin, Frederick SCD


Two Soil Conservation Districts in Frederick County will merge into one. The merger will allow the staff to work more efficiently as well as cut down on separate documents and supervising boards between the districts. Read more here.

Cost-Share Grants for Fall Manure Transport and Injection Available


The Maryland Department of Agriculture reminds farmers that cost-share funding is available to help cover the cost of hauling all types of manure to fall-planted crop fields with acceptable soil phosphorus levels. Grants are also available to offset costs associated with injecting liquid manure into the soil to prevent nutrient runoff and reduce odors. Learn more here.

The Mid-Atlantic 4R Nutrient Stewardship Association held it's first-ever 4R Symposium on August 31st at Cecil Community College in partnership with the Delaware Maryland 4R Alliance and Pennsylvania 4R Alliance. Corteva Sues Inari for Seed Trait Theft


Corteva is suing seed startup Inari for intellectual property theft, alleging in a lawsuit filed in federal court Wednesday that Inari tweaked biotech traits in Corteva's seeds and is now trying to obtain U.S. patents for them. Read more here.
