A Beautiful Day to Support Shelter Animals!

We want to give a huge thank you to everybody who participated in the MCSPCA Dog Walk and Pet Fair on April 27th, 2024! Thanks to the generosity of Mayor Anthony Talerico and the Borough of Eatontown, we were able to host this beloved tradition at Leon Smock 80 Acres Park for the first time.

Over a dozen vendors joined us to connect with pet parents and animal lovers in the community. Many of the vendors generously offered free goodies to our attendees (both dogs and humans!) and donated a portion of their proceeds back to the shelter. Our MCSPCA program departments had their own educational tables for guests to visit and learn about what their donations are working so hard to support ❤

It was beyond wonderful to see so many new faces along with our long-time friends and supporters gathered together to celebrate a shared love of animals! We can't wait for next year 🐾 See more photos here!

Zara Needs a Home ❤

Zara is a beautiful young husky who was found on the side of the road after being hit by a car - she had a painful leg fracture and significant road rash. Thankfully Zara was rescued and brought to Garden State Veterinary Hospital before being transferred to our care. Zara's leg was able to be set in a cast and she spent some time in foster to heal. Zara has made great improvement and now she's ready to find her forever family! Zara appears to be friendly with other dogs and we think she'll make a wonderful companion 🐾

A Unique Adoption for a Special Kitty

RoPURRt Downey Jr. was once a very shy and scared cat, he refused to interact with anybody for the first month he was in our care. As time went on, he became slightly more comfortable but was still wary of strangers. Unfortunately, it’s uncommon for adult cats to shut down in a shelter environment. RDJ’s lucky day came when a couple saw his photos online and fell in love. One of their cats had recently passed away, leaving their other feline companion very lonely. There was just one issue. his potential adopters are immunocompromised, and avoid public settings to protect their health. So how could they come in to adopt RDJ?

Our adoption staff was hardly going to let that stop them from finding RDJ his perfect life! Our Feline Adoptions Manager first counseled the couple over email to make sure it would be a good fit for RDJ. The couple asked a trusted friend to act as a proxy for them, and the friend joined us at the shelter for a meet-and-greet via FaceTime. Shortly thereafter, RDJ (now named “Henry”) joined his new family at home thanks to the help of their generous friend.

In the comfort and safety of his own home, RDJ has blossomed into the loving, happy pet we always knew he could be. His new family says, “He is rolling around on the floor, giving head bumps, playing with toys, he LOVES chin scratches, and he is purring like a motorcycle. I don't think I've ever seen anything as happy as he is right now. He hid for the first few hours, but the hiding has already officially ended. We love this guy! Thank you so much for helping to make this happen for us.”

We are so elated that RDJ could find his happily ever after!

It's HIP to CHIP! We're having a FREE microchip clinic in June ✅

Things to know:

Please bring any paperwork corresponding with your pet(s)
1 handler per pet
Dogs on leash / cats in a carrier
There is NO yearly renewal fee
There is no pre-registration for this event
Wait times will vary by attendance
Microchipping will be the only service offered during this event

This clinic will take place at the MCSPCA, 260 Wall Street in Eatontown.

And Speaking of Microchips..

In September 2023, we received a report about a cat named Tootie that had gone missing. Her family was in the process of moving when one of the movers left the door open. Tootie got spooked and bolted!

Fast forward to April 2024, MCSPCA Animal Control responded to a call from a good Samaritan about a found cat. Our ACO quickly scanned the kitty and found a matched microchip in our database - and it was Tootie ❤ Tootie was transported to her "new" home and her family is overjoyed that she's back!

This story demonstrates the importance of microchips in the event that a pet goes missing, and we’re so glad that Tootie’s is safe and sound!

Springtime Means Babytime!

It's the time of year when fawns are seen, sometimes in the oddest of places! The first instinct of concerned citizens is to want to help the babies by intervening, but many times they can be left alone 🙂

• Fawns are born relatively scentless (so predators can’t seek them out) and their mothers will leave them in a safe spot while she forages for food

• Unless a fawn is visibly injured or in unavoidable danger, they should almost always be left alone

• When in doubt, call your local non-emergency police department so that they can dispatch animal control to advise

Join Our Pet Therapy Team!

Our volunteers and their certified therapy animals visit schools, nursing homes, rehab centers, libraries and more to spread a little love ❤ The program is composed of three areas: traditional Pet Therapy, Humane Education, and Read to Dog.

The animals in our Pet Therapy group are one of a kind, and we are always looking for more dogs, cats, and other animals to join our team!
