Meet This Year's Undergraduate Teaching Fellows


MCSJE's Undergraduate Teaching Fellows Program offers professional learning to Brandeis undergraduates who are working in supplemental Jewish education. This year’s cohort includes: Rachel Araten ’24, Sophia Berlinger ’27, Tali Gordon-Knight ’24, Mateo Levin ’27, Sadie Lieberman ’27, Abby Litwin ’27, Naomi Stephenson ’26, and Sophia Stewart ’26.


Working in collaboration with other student fellows, under the mentorship of UTF Director Robin Kahn, they explore their own Jewish journeys, reflect on their teaching, develop new inquiry skill, and gain insight into their students’ learning.

Like other immigrants, many Israeli expatriates find themselves asking how they can maintain their culture on American soil. But what happens when their children learn their heritage language in American educational settings? In this session, MCSJE Doctoral Fellow Hannah Kober will discuss the surprising finding from her recent research that the long-held narrative about Israeli-Americans as producers of Hebrew language education, and not as consumers, needs reconsideration.
