State Central Committee Meeting
Robert Dover, Chairman, John Dinkel, Committeeman, and Cindy Dinkel, Proxy for Dottie McKeever, Committeewoman attended the State Central Committee Meeting in Kearney on Saturday. Mark Fahleson called the meeting to order at 9:00 Saturday, March 9th. Attendees then broke out to Caucus by District. District 1 elected John Orr(Kay Orr's son) as 1st District Chair, Matt Innis, Lancaster County Chair as 1st District Vice Chair and Roxie Kracl, Dodge County Chair as 1st District Member-at-Large. 1st District County Chair Representative will be elected by ballot. Rod Krogh was re-elected as Treasurer and J.L. Spray was elected as Chairman of NEGOP. Jordan McGrain will be covering 2012 Election Summary, Candidate Review and Elected Officials at our March Luncheon. J.L. Spray talked about the importance of growing the Party. "Stand With Rand Resolution was adopted by the NEGOP. Rand Paul filibustered on March 6th and stated that "The use of drones to execute, or to target Americans citizens on American soil who pose no imminent threat clearly violates the Constitutional due process rights of citizens." Furthermore the NEGOP voted to support LB412 which supports the due process of law and calls upon all Republican officials to oppose the use of drones for any unconstitutional purposes. A proposed resolution, "Restore the Power of the GOP Grassroots" was tabled. The resolution would have requested that the RNC declare the rules passed at the 2012 convention as "null and void" as they were improperly passed at the convention. Some believed that rule 12 gave unprecedented power to the RNC, rule 16 forced all states to allocate and bind the state's delegation to the National Convention through Presidential Polls and rule 40 now requires an 8 state majority instead of the past 5 state requirement to nominate an individual for President and/or Vice President. Most of these changes were the result of Ron Paul's attempt to capture 5 states to nominate him to run for President. Nebraska was his last chance to reach the magic number 5. Many felt that the resolution was not handed out early enough for a vote so it was tabled. Reports were given and the meeting was adjourned. Adrian Smith talked at the Young Republican's Luncheon on the importance of getting involved in the political process at an early age as he had and thanked his Democratic Dad for becoming a Reagan Democrat. Founders' Day Dinner was held Saturday Night. Governor Dave Heineman was unable to attend as well as Congressman Lee Terry because of the potential storm. Some thought the Governor didn't attend because of the storm of questions he would face asking him to run for the Senate. Senator Mike Johanns was admitted into the NEGOP Hall of Fame. Senator Deb Fischer and Congressman Adrian Smith addressed the group. Gering native Miss USA, Teresa Scanlan was the featured guest.
