Student Profile: Jessica Brand
Jessica is a full-time Architectural Engineering Technology student and head Peer Leader at MCC-BT.  When not on campus, which isn't very often - she roams our halls day and night, she plays saxophone and is something of a Rollerblade phenom.

"My dream job is to be an Imangineer for Disney."

Everyone Passed!
Earning HVAC EPA Certification is a requirement for our HVAC program and these students are grinning ear to ear after passing the exam.

Many high-skill careers require industry recognized or government mandated certification.  We make sure our students are graduating with the skills, knowledge, and credentials to hit the ground running.  All the students in this photo can now safely and legally handle refrigerant.

We proctor EPA, OSHA, HiSET, Bennett Mechanical, CISCO, NABSEP, AHIT, NET+, and a long list of other certification tests to our students and non-students, too.  Learn more about the tests and certifications we proctor by contacting Diane Beal in the MCC-BT Testing Center.
MFG Day 2014 - Women in Manufacturing
We had about 70 educators, industry professionals, agency counselors, and students attend MFG Day on Friday, October 3. Our presentation and panel discussion focused on Women in Manufacturing.

Women make up nearly half of the total U.S. workforce, yet only 24.8% of manufacturing labor force is female.

Professionals from Honeywell, JC Penny, Bayer Cropscience, Polytainers, and Custom Foods shared their experience as women in manufacturing and shared ideas about recruiting more women into the career field.

This is the third year Kelly Engineering Services and MCC-BT have collaborated on a MFG Day event.

MCC-BT to host first annual NKC 8th Grade Collge & Career Fair next Friday

We expect about 1,500 NKC 8th graders to visit campus Friday, October 10.  While here our Jr. High guests will rotate through three areas - Guest Speakers, College Fair, and Career Fair.

Volunteers are still needed to help with the MCC exhibit.  As a volunteer you may get to operate an automated recycling machine, operate our virtual welder, help with a mannequin from the nursing program, use a giant fan to show how technicians check for draft in a house, or answer questions about MCC programs.  Contact Alex Grigsby to volunteer.

MoWINS Update
MoHealthWINs is in its final year, which means no more classes, however we have touched many lives and changed them for the better. MCC has provided training and degree programs to approximately 900 - unemployed, veterans, under-employed and low skilled individuals in the KC area through MoHealth.   The team's focus will now be on job placement for participants, documentation  and research for the Department of Labor.

MoManufacturingWINs is beginning its third year.  To date 330 participants have been served by funds from this grant.  Many have earned credentials in Welding, CIMM, OSHA and three noncredit short-term training programs - Basic Industrial Welding, Basic Machining: Saw and Drill Press, and Warehouse and Logistics Associate.  We have a goal of 707 unique participants served by the end of year three and I know we will get there.  With the support of the BT team there is nothing that cannot be accomplished.

MCC was awarded 3.8 million this week for MoSTEMWINs to train 200 eligible participants throughout the Kansas City region in the high demand fields of healthcare and information technology. With these grant dollars MCC will develop a new medical assistant program. In addition, to offering intrusive student support in high demand IT career field degree programs with low retention rates due to rigorous curriculum.
