Volunteer Spotlight
Barb Karp

Q. Give us a brief description of yourself.

I have been a resident of Moon Twp. since 1979. Worked for the original American Airlines for 41 years. Worked in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Gunnison Colorado (2 ski seasons). I traveled a lot and along the way I down hill skied, scuba dived, cross country skied, and now I snow shoe. (let it snow)

Q. How long have you been volunteering at MCA-TV?

I have been a volunteer at MCA-TV since 2009.

Q. What inspired you to take the production classes?

A few of us at the Moon Twp. Garden Club thought about a garden show, with MCA-TV. Spot Light on Gardening was born. We filmed at different members gardens, along with doing shows in studio.

Q. What do you enjoy most about volunteering at MCA-TV?

I enjoy the people I meet and things I have learned.

Q. What shows did/do you work on?

I worked on both of Pam Krug's cooking shows. It was always fun and I have learned a lot from Pam. We always enjoyed what she cooked and more. I worked on Ryan McAfee wedding film and his show Around Town program as well. I also worked on Gary Weinstein's Chiropractic show and the TAI CHI show. I volunteered on other shows thru the years as well.

Q. Do you have any other shows you'd like to see in the future?

I would like to see another gardening show. That would be nice.

COVID-19 Update

As we continue to navigate through these uncertain times, we are open to film at MCA-TV. We welcome all producers to schedule shows and new producers to start programs. Please call or email to set up a time to come so we can ensure we do not have too many people in the studio at once.
All measures are being taken to practice social distancing between employees and volunteers in the studio. Specifically, it is recommended that you stay at least 6 feet away from others and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. There will be alcohol-based sanitizers available so everyone can wash their hands frequently. Also, the public will be required to wear a mask before being granted admittance to the building and during their time at the studio (with the exception being the talent). Individuals who cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition may enter the premises and are not required to provide documentation. If you are sick, we ask that you stay home for the safety of everyone until you are better.
As always, you are welcome to reserve equipment from the studio to film as well. Just email us to reserve the equipment so we can ensure it is ready for you.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we all work through this reopening process. Our highest priority is the health and well-being of everyone in the MCA-TV family and our community. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation and keep you updated as changes occur.
Brewer Airport Toyota Film Festival 2021

The Brewer Airport Toyota Film Festival returns in May, marking its 10th year for the competition. MCA-TV invites local filmmakers to test their creativity for a chance to win! Films will be judged on: originality, creativity, strength of plot, story structure, characters, cinematography, direction, entertainment value, dialogue (character interaction), and overall quality. All submissions will be broke down into feature length and short film categories. Thanks to monetary donations from generous sponsors, MCA-TV will award more than $2,400 in prizes.
Enter your original film before the May 14, 2021 deadline and watch the event live on MCA-TV on Saturday, May 29. Films will be judged by a panel of film experts from the Pittsburgh Area. You do not have to be a Moon Township resident to participate. For more information, visit MCA-TV.ORG.

What is a community producer, you ask?
A community producer is a Moon Township resident that has gone through our production course.

If you are not a community producer, we can help pair you up with one! We currently have about 15 active community producers ready to help you get your show on the road! The process is easy! Just contact Allison Ford at with information about your idea and you are on your way!
