A NOTE ON ATTENDANCE
“Grandparent Illness”
We have noticed an uptick in student excuse notes citing “grandparent illness” as a reason for excusal.
The St Johns County Code of Conduct allows for EXCUSED student absences, which includes but is not limited to:
· Personal Illness
· Illness of an immediate family member (parents or siblings)
· Death in the family
We at MCA readily work with our families when grandparents become gravely ill. However, we will only consider absences for grandparent illness with documentable proof of hospice care, critical hospitalizations, or another equally grave circumstance. If your excuse is for “grandparent illness”
the absence will not be excused until other documentation is received. We will gladly work with our families during times of family struggle but must be able to verify the reasons listed in the excuse. We appreciate your understanding.
