SJCSD Social Studies Adoption

The St. Johns County School District has begun the review process for the Social Studies Instructional Materials Adoption. Once available for review, the digital resources will be posted here (https://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/media/textbooks/adoption/) and available for review. The core resources that have been submitted for evaluation were selected from the state adoption consideration lists when available. Additional resources for advanced programs may be reviewed from materials listed as appropriate for the program indicated.

Some print materials may be available for review. If you would like access to the available printed materials or require assistance reviewing the online resources, please call the Instructional Resources and Media Services office at 904.547.3947. Materials are available for review from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM when district offices are open.

We encourage parent and community participation in our adoption process. If you would like to serve on a school committee and formally review the resources as a part of the school review team, please contact any school or our office at 904.547.3947 by April 21, 2023. Committee membership is limited. School administrators will select the appropriate number of reviewers from the list of interested participants.

Congratulations to MCA’s elementary Battle of the Books team that finished 1^st in our district’s regional competition. Our Battle took place on Thursday March 23^rd. We competed against 12 other elementary schools in the south region of the district. Our amazing team exemplified all the pillars of characters through their hard work and their passion for reading. Not only did they place first in the competition, but they also made school history as this is the first time Millcreek has won this competition!

Battle of the Books is a school and district-based competition used to promote the love of reading amongst students and encourages students to select and read from the list of Sunshine State Young Reader Award nominated books. 15 books are chosen each year by a committee of certified media specialist throughout the state. The books are introduced to the students in grades 3-5 at the beginning of the year and they have the option to select any of the nominated books to read. They demonstrate their comprehension skills through short quizzes or book discussions with the media specialist. Once the team is selected, they work together and combine their knowledge of the books. During the competition they use their knowledge to answer a list of questions designed by the district media services department.

We couldn’t be prouder of the team and all the students that demonstrated their love of reading by participating in this program.

FAST Testing Proctors

Mill Creek is gearing up for our final FAST testing of the year and we need help from our awesome parents to be test proctors. If you are able to help us out with this Big Need we would love for you to sign up using the Sign Up Genius below. Please read the basic but important rules below and sign up for any and all that you may be able to help us with.

1. You must be an approved volunteer and competed the School Access background check within the last two years. If you have not done so here is the link Apply - KeepnTrack(if you are not sure if yours is up to date you can call the front office to have them verify)

2. You cannot proctor for a grade that you have a student currently in. For example if you have a 3rd grade student at MCA you cannot proctor during the 3rd grade FAST testing.

KINDERGARTEN AND NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR 23/24

IS OPEN

New Students/Incoming KG students must be completely registered (all documents needed for enrollment must be received by the school) prior to being able to register for Extended Day.

Extended Day Registrations will open in mid-April and fills on a first come/first served basis.

Middle School News

Tocoi Creek High School 9^th Grade Spring Football for incoming students will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from May 1^st to May 17^th. More information will be coming soon.

Softball Schedule

March Madness in the Middle School Media Center

Students can come to the Middle School Media Center for some March Madness fun. If your middle school student checks out a book at the library by Friday March 31st they will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar. The student with the closest guess will win the contents of the jar.

If you have not competed the form for your child giving them permission to check out a book this year, please print out the form below and have them bring it by the Media Center. All students must have this form to be able to check out books.

Stop the Bullying Campaign Contest

St. Johns County School District has partnered with the Len Mattiace Foundation for round 2 of their Stop the Bullying Campaign Contest. His foundation helps our youth in NE Florida with raising awareness about bullying and creating a safe environment for them. Len Mattiace is a former graduate from Nease High School and he is a golfer on the PGA TOUR.

A HUGE congratulations to our Fall Semester student winners at Valley Ridge Academy, Fruit Cove Middle, Mill Creek Academy, Murray Middle, Landrum Middle, Freedom Crossing Academy, Patriot Oaks Academy and Pacetti Bay Middle for being winners with the Stop the Bullying Campaign Contest. Their entries were focused on compassion, inclusion, and kindness.

Open to all middle school students
Contest dates: 1/18 – 4/13/23 by 5:00 PM
Cash prizes for TWO winners. Winners will be announced by May 15^th with a visit from the Prize Patrol.

Fill Out Your Volunteer School Access Form!

In a continuing effort to provide safety and security to our students and staff we ask that you complete a School Access Form if you plan to enter a facility in the St. Johns County School District. Any person passing beyond the front office area must show a valid driver’s license or state identification card.

It is recommended individuals include their middle name when completing the online application; and, if no middle name, then please use the acronym “NMN”.
