The Marine Advanced Technology Education
(
MATE
)
Center
was established with funding from the National Science Foundation in 1997. MATE is an international network of community colleges, secondary schools, universities, research institutions, professional societies, marine industries, and professionals. MATE's mission is to use marine technology to inspire and challenge students to learn and creatively apply science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to solving real-world problems in a way that strengthens critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

017 Competition Highlights Port Cities of the Future:
Commerce, Entertainment, Health, and Safety
The 16th annual MATE international competition will take place June 23-25, 2017 at Long Beach City College in Long Beach, California, with 28 regional events taking place across the U.S. and around the world. This year's theme focuses on how ROVs are used to support port security, health, commerce, and tourism - now and into the future!

Applications for Internships
Applications for the MATE/UNOLS 6-month At-Sea Internship are now being accepted! This internship is open to college students in technical programs who are interested in working in a marine technical career within the next year. Interns will be paid a stipend of $500/week and will have all travel and lodging expenses covered. This Internship starts in April 2017. Applications are due January 6th, 2017 at 3 pm PST.
